Angels 22: Playtest
So I dug up an old copy of Angels 22, I'm not sure if it ever got released here even, but it will come in handy, because we would like to get feedback on it. All you have to do is play it. It's surprisingly complete, so have fun!

---------PLAY THE ANGELS 22 PROTOTYPE (.ZIP)---------

EDIT:
It looks like this...

Moar screenshots can be viewed here: Image of the Day (from back in the day).

Controls
These are also in the readme in the .zip, but for convenience:

Left/Right Arrow- Rotates Airplane [Double-tap to perform quick-flip.]
Up Arrow- Afterburner (Boost) [Double-tap to use overburn (Super Boost)]
Down Arrow- Airbrake (Brake)

Z- Shoots gun
X- Use secondary Weapon
Shift- Switch secondary weapon
A- Switch target(for Commie Raper Missile)

Esc- Menu
R- Restart
G- Landing mode (creates line which will turn green if you are traveling at the right angle- use Down arrow to stop)
P- Pause
E- Editor Mode (must be Paused first) Note: Some buttons might crash the game, in that case, just restart.

F12- Exit Game

Important Instructions

The EXE is called DogfightEngine.exe (read the entry before last to get an inkling of why...).
To play, in the Main Menu go to "MISSIONS" and Select "DEMO MISSION 1"
To choose weapons, use the NEXT and PREV buttons. You can't select your gun ammo, so don't worry if you um, can't.
Don't go past the very right edge of the level, it will crash the game.

Cool Things! (to try)
(Refer to videos posted two entries ago for visual how-to's)

-Napalm.

-Knock down the lighthouse.

-Skip bombs by flying just above the water at high speed and releasing a bomb
(only works with regular bombs). Try sinking the ship this way.

-When being chased by a missile (indicated by a hella annoying beep-beep-beep), double-tap left or right to perform a quick flip and shoot down the missile with your gun.

-In the editor, click the shiny red laser button to put down Kremlin Towers that shoot lasers.

-In the editor, use the plus and minus buttons at the bottom to make it dark. This makes flak look cool and Kremlin lasers look awesome.

-In the editor, try putting a rock about 3/4 the way up the screen. Something unexpected will happen, especially after you unpause the game.

-Mess around with the editor in general, make your own island. I haven't tried, but I'm fairly sure you can export files.

Feedback plz?
Alright, be sure to note what sucks and what's awesome... now enjoy ye'selves, and be sure to leave us a comment or two!

Tried it. Played nicely. However the bottom part of the screen was cut off at my resolution (1024*600) so it was kind of hard to hit some targets.

Awesome amount of weapons to use. I went nuts with napalm to the point where the game almost lagged to a halt. [grin]

A lot of development stuff in the zip. Maybe you could consider supplying the source as a separate file to keep it cleaner. And not to package the .o files which is of no use to another programmer anyway.

I think you should keep going with the new version of the game. Definitely playable if you keep making cool levels.

sorry dude, all I get is this. Just went straight through the game and load menus, didn't touch anything else. Both full and windowed versions

Here's my 32-bit DxDiag.txt and my 64-bit DxDiag.txt for you to pass on to Sir Sapo if you wish.

All this time later, its still kind of an awesome little game. If only I could get my own artist to draw (such nice) stuff.

Great job! The art is nice and the game plays well. I only have one bug when I play the game. The text seems like it is all smashed together. I mean the font looks ok and the letters are not distorted they just sit on top of one another.

Oh we'll be keeping Napalm no matter what...

Yeah, that's the last stable version we found, it really wasn't meant for wide release but we never got around to taking that stuff out.

For sure, although I'm afraid Sir Sapo has a lot of backtracking to do to implement just the cool features we already have.

Ah, as I recall that bug came up somewhere and Sir Sapo had some fix for it... thanks for playing!

Well, if they kick me out of college and I'm forced to become a starving artist...
