3D Studio Max R2.5 and Win2K?

Anyone manage to get 3DS Max 2.5 working under Window 2000?? After I managed to get it to install (didn''t want to, kept giving me win95 or nt 4 only) When I try to run it, I just get a msgbox saying that the application failed to initialize. I''ve been unable to find anything on Kinetix site regarding this, other than "use 3.1"... Any thoughts?
