A friend of mine gave me the ''Sams Teach yourself Visual C++ 6 in 21 days'' book. I''m wondering if I will be able to use it with the Microsoft Visual C++.net standard package. I realize some things will be different, but I''m not to sure how different. Will I be lost? I''m new to windows programming, although I''ve been playing around with C++ for the last few weeks (Console windows). Thanks!
To tell you the truth, I despise that book. All it really covers is MFC, and not much of general Windows programming. You really need to have a good understanding of C++ to work with the book without getting lost. Even after that, you still may not want to read this book unless you are developing some sort of non-game application, such as a calculator or calendar program.

As for Visual C++.net, I doubt this book will fit your needs. It may work, but the book was such a pain for me.
