what would be good level designing software to use for shareware game design besides 3D Studio Max...I think that would be just a little to 3d for me...

3D Studio Max is not a game design program. It''s a 3D modelling tool. If you''re designing levels, the tool you use will generally depend on the game you are designing them for.

QuArK (www.planetquake.com/quark) is usually pretty good and free..
