Hi, I''m extremely interested in artificial intelligence and was hoping somebody here could point me in the direction of a good book for a relative beginner in this field. Some things I am looking for: preferably with some code/pseudocode and C++ is a plus. Nothing too abstract and nothing that extremely heavy with code or high-end math since I will be reading a lot of it away from a computer. Also, nothing that dwells too much on only games and game developing (I see so many out there trying to teach the AI for games like Half-Life or similar games), although some is fine and min-max/alpha-beta pruning/etc I wouldn''t count in this category and would be fine as well. Basically something thats a great read with theory but which I can turn around and implement right away while coding on the weekends. Hope this makes sense! Thanks for any advice!
"AI Techniques for Game Programming"

C++ exclusive. Sure, it is geared primarily towards gameprogrammers, but it teaches ANN´s and Genetic Algorithms in a very comprehensible (and not too mathematical - well, almost no math, really) way. So you will be able to migrate that knowledge to whatever field of programming youd want, Im sure.

"AI Game Programming Wisdom" is pretty good too, but its really more a collection of tutorials than an instructional book that teaches you ai from ground up.

Id go with the first one first, and then perhaps check out the second to see how the pros did some of their implementations in the "real" world.

----PATRIOTISM----

“Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done.
And I am Caesar.”
— Julius Caesar

BUSH vs HITLER - who´s your daddy?
------------------------Why of course the people don’t want war. ... That is understood. But after all it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship ...Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country. Although I''m very grateful for the recommend (AI Techniques is my book ),if you want a good all round book on AI then I suggest you check out "Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach" by Russell and Norvig. See the reviews in the book section.

My book focuses on genetic algorithms and neural networks.

"AI: A modern Approach" is what I would suggest as well. It''s the bible of AI to me and every student in AI I know. And those are quite a few, if I think about it

"We AI people are either highly overrated or pityfully underrated. Bottomline is that no one appreciates the real us."

"The only adventurous thing left for us is to go to bed. For no one can lay a hand on our dreams."
