Milkshape 3D is not free actually, but it''s really cheap (25 bucks or something like that) Anim8or is pretty good (well that''s what my modeller says)

The source for Blender was purchased from NaN and freed.

Yah, blender is back baby, and the stuff people can do with blender is amazing....but it''s a very NOT USER FRIENDLY PROGRAM!

Go for Blender. Despite what a few unknowlegable users on this forum say Blender is alive a kicking, the user base is growing, and its one of the most if not the most powerful FREE 3D modeler animator available. New scripts are being made all the time and the user base consists of everything from amateurs to industry pros. And like ALL 3D modeling programs it can be user friendly if you dedicate youself to 3D modeling. A suggestion though, download 2.23 for now there are a few compatability issues between newer versions and a lot of the existing scripts, but never fear the models are backwards and forwards compatable.
