If you are a decent programmer in any other language, I suggest "ANSI Common Lisp". It's one of the best programming books I've read. It explains Lisp iinstead of being a "how to program in 37 years" book that assumes you know nothing.

One of the Lisp IDEs asked where you heard about it before it gave you the d/l link, and I put "The GameDev.Net Revolution" =-)
