3DSMAX R3 Bone structure

hello there, i have made a box character in 3dsmax (using meshsmooth makes it look human) for my game but i want to know how to properly animated it (NO DUMMIES!) i was thinking just with bones. where do i have to place the bones and to be able to move them freely without the character distorting and bending improperly?
In earlier versions of max I found that suing box bones was a little easier to setup.
Failing that, I think there''s a version of the charrigger script for max 3 on scriptspot.com

Try delving into the IK and hi-solvers tutorials, this is the easiest way to animate a character walking etc... But you will need to set the bones up correctly so that they don''t swivel in inappropriate directions. Hope thats any help.
