Hi, not sure if I should have posted this here or in the Artifical Intelligence topic area, but anyway... Im looking for a list of free (preferably Open Source) A.I. libraries that people can use to plugin to their games / apps. I have no experiance with A.I., so I would like to start off my learning by using existing A.I. code in my initial game development projects. I have already come across OpenSteer (http://opensteer.sourceforge.net/) which looks very good...its this sort of thing I am after. So, any hints as to where I should start looking would be appreciated. Cheers

Hiya

AI is a very fun science and I would suggest trying to learn it from the groud up. You can learn a lot from open source games, but I would suggest reading the articles here first or else you probably won't understand whats going on. This is a really really awsome site dedicated to ai.

I would strongly suggest reading up on FSM's or finite state machines first. There one of the most 'easiest' methods, but can produce some awsome results. Actually, most games even now days use this approach.

AI also covers path finding. One of the most commonly used methods is the A* (A-Star) algo. This stuff can get pretty complex, so be prepared.

Alrighty, good luck and happy coding!

FEAR!!!!!
"Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.".....V
