In the vast majority of cases, it's something that the graphics driver will override you on even if you request something from code, so it doesn't matter much.

Really? I've done it on quite a few different systems. On the other hand, it rarely has a pracical purpose other then maybe a benchmark of your game, so it isn't that big a loss. If anyone ever released a game that didn't vsync, I'd think they were nuts.
Turring Machines are better than C++ any day ^_~
