Has anyone made skybox textures for space-sims? I mean realistic ones, not like most space-sims with colorful galaxies that have the size of a planet just a thousand miles away... I want to make a skybox with a view of stars as they are seen from earth''s orbit. Any ideas where to start?

If you want an easy way to make skyboxes you can use a 3D-prgoram such as Bryce, it is a fast method and the result is quite good. Check out gamasutra.com if you want some technical tips. If you want to create a realistic sky with stars exactly like they are seen from earth, then you could probably get some starmaps from an observatory or something... Sorry, that''s all I can come up with.
