QueryPerformanceCounter() for Irix??

I've written a game for windows, which uses the QueryPerormanceCounter() function to keep motion independant of framerate. However I'm trying to port it to Irix; University assessment must take place on the in house SGI's.

Of course this function is not on Irix, is there an equivelent function for this platform? Or any unix platform? Or is it specific to architecture?

Otherwise what other methods are there to tackle this problem? Multithreading is out, as I'm using glut (cause I don't know motif).
