Why not 'star' in your own games? Make photo's, scan them and use them......

My DX based game will have human characters in 16bit color. Is there an application to create human characters with ease, or do you have to draw them and scan them into bitmaps?

Is there a web location where you can download free characters for games?

Anything that is extremely detailed like the face portrait of a human
character is probably drawn by hand on paper and then scanned in. Or
art designers use graphic tablets, like Wacom's http://www.wacom.com/index.shtml
that can be used with graphic programs like Photoshop. But these costs
like 400 bucks and up.

There's also the option of 3D characters, like 3dsmax and character studio.
Mega bucks there too.

Hmmm, if I had a scanner, I would draw my own.
