Is there any OpenGL code available that renders all the characters of the alphabet using vertex data, similar to example 7.5 in the OpenGL Programming Guide, v1.1?

Yeah its glTexFont. Nate's got some other really cool examples on his site too, e.g bsp trees, bezier-patches...
