Whether it's Bing, Google, GDNet provided, I dunno. But it seems like a fun idea just to see where people are from. Of course if there was such a thing, it would be voluntary.

That would indeed be nice to look at a map and see who is near you. For people looking to meet in person and create a dev group that be a good tool. Gamedev already takes that info though. Just need to create a map with that info.
