Annoying Photoshop6

I''ve been getting irritated about this little feature that Photoshop 6 has and I''ve decide to see if I can find someone who knows if it''s possible to disable it. Every time I open a non .psd file and edit it and then press CTRL S, it prompts me to save as a photoshop file and not as the file format in which I opened it. Then I have to click the little drop down box and change the file format. Having to do this every time gets very annoying, anyone know how to disable it? geez I don''t see the point this feature, it''s as if Adobe wants its users to get annoyed!

usually, photoshop will only prompt you to save as a .psd file if you are using a feature not supported by the original file type, for example, layers. Try to flatten the image before you hit save, that might work.

I have to agree with seven79.
AFAIK, Phothoshop will only bother you with PSD format if you start using stuff that the original file format you were using doesnt support them.
But honestly, I don''t see what''s the big deal (although I understand why you get annoyed). It''s always nice and useful to have a nicely layered version of your file as a master, and a final version in whatever format you use (JPEG or other).
It''s vey useful when you need to change one element of your picture afterwards...
