Tricks of the Windows Game Programming Gurus was good for learning the basics of Win32 and DirectX, but I''d like to go a little further. I''ve searched through the listing of books on this site, but nothing catches my attention. So I ask you, which book is great for lerning Win32 programming in C++, and which book is best at teaching DirectX 7 programming in C++/Win32? DX 7 is about as far as I''d like to go, since I''m already familiar with DirectDraw, and more people have this version than DX 8 and above... I believe.

For intermediate Windows programming, try Programming Windows, 5th Edition by Charles Petzold (Microsoft Press, ISBN: 1-57231-995-X)

As for DirectX, jump right to a DX8 book, which is a big jump from DX7. I could recommend my book...
