I would not recommend it because you can get the maya learning adition for free now. It has a watermark on the final output but who cares it is free! That save you about 2 grand. Maya only runs on XP, 2000, and NT i believe so if you dont have one of those os''s then i would suggest animator.
if u need a 3d prog for games get truespace 1, its free, or milkshape. dont know if blender is still around, but it also was a good prog.

If you want to be able to make complex models fast, you really need more powerfull software like maya or max, although you can theoretically make any model on any software, some things will take you 100''s times as much time on simpler modelling packages like anim8or. If you want free modellers, try the learning edition of maya or gmax, which is basically a stripped down version of 3d studio max designed mostly for game dev, but still very powerfull.

Truespace 1? How good is that? Where could I get it?

I''m currently using Anim8or for my current game project, and even if it''s working ok for now, I''d like to test alternative software as well...

Thanks in advance,
