3dsmax fire effects in direct x

I''m a newbie to game and directx programming, and i''m making a game from scratch to learn it all. I''m trying to use some fire/explosion effects created in 3dsmax4 in a directx program. All the other models/animations i''ve used so far have been xfiles exported from 3dsmax. However, the fire/explosions effects in 3dsmax don''t seem to even export. Right now in 3dsmax i''ve got a fire effect that renders just fine in that prog and I''d really appreciate any help anybody could give me on how to get those effects into an xfile so i can use them in my game. Thanks.... P.S. The forums on this site kick ass

If you''re using the atmospheric apparatus then it won''t export. You probably need to use particle systems to create your fire effect.
